Our business is targeted to promote a large number of sustainable livelihoods in the rural communities that have been left behind by the great economic development juggernaut. The rural, backward communities that provide so much of the human capital leveraged to build our cities, ports and bridges are often in far to reach, remote areas that primarily rely on a small, agricultural driven local economy. These economies are neither well connected nor integrated with the mainstream economy. As a result, even when the rest of the developing world is growing rapidly, these clusters are not very well served. As a result, the broad based programs offered to alleviate poverty in these regions have not proved very effective for these communities. Gramcell's belief is that poverty has to be recognized as a multidimensional phenomenon that encompasses not simply low income, but also lack of assets, skills, resources, opportunities, services and the power to influence decisions that
affect an individual's daily life. At Gramcell, we believe that by providing small loans and savings facilities to people who are excluded from commercial financial services, our microfinance products can provide a sound strategy for providing the tools needs by these communities to improve their economic state. Access to credit and deposit services is a way to provide the poor with opportunities to take an active role in their respective economies through entrepreneurship, building income, bargaining power and social empowerment among poor women and men. At Gramcell, our objective is to provide the necessary financial tools that people in these regions need. We do this through the provision of financial services, technical assistance and provide access to markets in an integrated manner.
